Academic Access

Convex Lake gives enrolled students free access to our data archives for academic work. This page explains who can apply, what you receive, the conditions that come with it, and how to request a key.

1. Who can apply

  • You are currently enrolled as an undergraduate, master's or PhD student.
  • Or you are a lecturer, professor or supervisor requesting access for a named student research group or course.
  • You apply from your university email address.
  • You describe the research or coursework you intend to carry out with the data.

2. What you receive

  • A personal API key for the Convex Lake API, at no cost.
  • Access to our archived datasets: orderbook snapshots, trade prints, candles and volatility surfaces across the venues we collect.
  • Access runs for the duration of your studies or project and can be renewed while you remain enrolled.

3. Conditions of use

  • Research and education only. The key may not be used for commercial trading, commercial products, or reselling data.
  • The key is personal to you. Do not share, publish or transfer it, and do not give others access to your account.
  • Do not redistribute raw files or bulk exports. Publish your findings, charts and conclusions rather than the archive itself.
  • Stay within the standard per-minute request limits so the service stays fast for everyone.
  • Let us know when your project ends, when you graduate, or if you no longer need the key.

4. Publishing with Convex Lake data

If you publish an article, paper, thesis, preprint, blog post or any other public material that uses data from Convex Lake, you are asked to credit Convex Lake as the data provider.

  • Name Convex Lake as the data provider in the data or methods section, and list us in the references or acknowledgements.
  • Include a link to https://convexlake.com so readers can reach the same data.
  • Name the venue and the date range you used, so the work can be reproduced.

Suggested wording:

"Orderbook and trade data for this study were provided by Convex Lake (https://convexlake.com)."

Please also send us a link to the finished work — we highlight student research built on our data.

5. How to request access

Applications are made through a short form. Tell us your name and university, your degree and expected graduation year, your university email, the research you plan to do, and which datasets and date ranges you need. Questions about eligibility can go in the comments field.
